Baby Shower pt.2

Here is the table set out with decorations and for afternoon tea:

(and our neighbour's house too.. sorry!)
My strawberry and vanilla cupcakes
My favourite tea set.  It belonged to my Granny and each cup has a different rose and a different colour inside it!

Baby Showers and Nappy Cakes!

Let me start by saying I have never attended a baby shower, let alone planned one before.  Although a big thing in America, they just aren't really a tradition as such in Ireland but I think they are getting more and more popular.  So, I decided to try and plan one for my sister who is expecting her first baby any day now!

I basically planned an afternoon tea with some of her friends and some of our relatives.  People kept asking what sort of gifts they should bring, so we de  cided upon a toy theme of sorts, as it was the one thing she didn't have any of.

Everytime I googled 'baby shower' though, these diaper cakes kept coming up (note: nappy cake is an Irish diaper cake!) I thought they looked complicated but a few youtube tutorials later I realisd I could probably give it a go so here is my first attempt at a nappy/diaper cake!

She doesn't know if its a boy or girl so I kept the colours neutral (well, a bit of purple as she is getting bored of lemon!)

REN Morrocan Rose Collection

Keeping in the theme of roses,  I thought I'd do a quick review of a much adored product of mine.

This particular batch of product was given to my Mum as a gift, but it reminded me of how much I loved it.  It's odd, because a lot of the time I neglect body products in favour of obsessing over cleansers and makeup for my troublesome skin.  So it's nice to find a product that makes me want to take better care of the rest of my skin too!

REN's Morrocan Rose Collection...

This collection is a bit of a cult, winning the In Style Beauty Award for 8 years for the body wash.
I have tried the body wash, body scrub and the morrocan rose otto body oil.
I have to admit I've never bought these products myself as they do not come cheap, but they are really beautiful gifts to receive.
The wash is very refreshing and the scrub works so well but my favourite is the body oil.  It sinks in fast, is lightly moisturising, making it great for summer, and smells divine.  I haven't found a body oil I like as well as this, maybe beacuse I love roses (incase I haven't got that across yet!) and it feels so romantic or decadent or something to use rose oil on your skin ... but maybe that's just me!

These products are free from parabens, synthetic colours and fragrances, sulfates, petrochemicals and all those other big words (check out the website by clicking here) so basically the products are a really good quality, and the natural aspect appeals to me as always.
The oil costs £30, the scrub is £32 and the body wash is £16 but....

They have a brand new UK website (http://www.renskinscare.com/) which is offering 20 percent off the whole rose collection for now, so if you are looking for a gift or just want to treat yourself, I haven't been disappointed by these products!

Alternatively,  I know they stock REN and its rose line in Space NK (2 stores in Belfast and in Harvey Nichols, Dublin)

Coming up roses..

Apologise from the small blog hiatus, hope you are all enjoying your summer.
With the roses in bloom for Rose Week,  I trotted down to Belfast's Lady Dixon Park to see their famous rose garden.

It was overgrown with the beautiful flowers and the whole place smelt wonderful providing you avoided the beds that had over indulged in the auld manure!  I loved all the musk and peony roses and the names were quite fun to read, particularly Sexy Rexy.. what a rose!.   I now dream of having a rose named after me.. a beautiful dramatic crimson rose was called Lili Marlene and a bright blooming yellow, Grandmere Juliette.   They must have been fabulous people, any budding (haha) gardners or rose breeders out there looking to be inspired?

I got carried away taking photographs, the light was just so hazy and beautiful.  I have taken lots of pictures of different roses throughout the year, and would like to print a few and make notelets of them.

The weather has diminished somewhat now, so these photos of summer skirts and sunglasses already feel nostalgic... come back summer!

p.s  I've tried to change my template, but being new to HTML (and not at all that way inclined) I'm not sure if it worked.. can you all see my sepia roses?!
